What you gain, and what you do not
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so a picture saved as PNG can be opened, edited and saved again without losing anything more. That is the reason to convert: a file that will be worked on, or a program that insists on PNG.
It does not undo what JPG already discarded: the soft blocks around sharp edges stay. It does not add transparency either; the background stays where it is. And the file is heavier, often five to ten times for a photograph (the workspace shows the weight of each).
How to convert
- Drop the JPG files on the workspace, or choose them. Both spellings, .jpg and .jpeg, are the same format.
- Each one is converted at once, at its own size in pixels; set a width if you need them smaller.
- Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.
