What a slug is
The last part of an address, the words that name the page: in mystya.com/tools/slug-generator, the slug is slug-generator. A good one is short and readable, in lowercase, with hyphens between the words and nothing a browser has to encode.
Accents and other letters
Accented letters lose their accents rather than being dropped or encoded: été becomes ete, not t or %C3%A9t%C3%A9. Ligatures are spelled out (œ becomes oe, æ ae, ß ss), and every run of anything else, spaces and punctuation alike, becomes a single hyphen.
Small words
A shorter address is easier to share and to read in a search result. Leaving out articles and short prepositions, in English or in French, keeps the words that carry the meaning: L’été à Québec : 10 idées becomes ete-quebec-10-idees.
